Easter Nests 2016

We have done several Easter crafts over the last couple of weeks but the children particularly enjoyed making some Easter nests to take home to their families.

We made a list of the ingredients that we needed from the shop and went out together to buy these. The children looked for the letter sounds that they recognised on both the shopping list and on the boxes within the shops.

The children used the scales and pointed out the numbers that they could see as we weighed out the objects, telling me whether we needed to add more or less to get the required amount. While our older ones measured out the ingredients our youngest member of the setting enjoyed putting the cake cases within the tins. The children then took it in turns to crush, mix and scoop the mixture.

The older children counted out the correct number of eggs for the top of each cake while our youngest had a great time exploring with a saucepan and wooden spoon. Our school children were particularly pleased when they arrived home to homemade cakes!

Fun at Saltram

We had such a great morning at Saltram today visiting the new woodland area that they have created. Both children and dogs had an amazing time although the dogs seemed to end up much dirtier than the children!

The boys tested out their climbing skills on the poles with footholds and the giant tyres.  They also enjoyed burying their feet in the wood chippings, using the stamps to make patterns on the wood and playing poo sticks in the stream from the bridge.

Finally the boys enjoyed the predominantly wooden construction play-park where they practised their balancing and sliding skills as well as loving playing hide and seek amongst the child sized wooden containers.

Spring at last

We have really enjoyed the sudden change in the weather this week and made the most of more outdoor play opportunities.

Each evening the children have made the most of being out in the garden. They have played together inventing stories about what they are doing, particularly those involving making potions!

They have used their developing skills to measure, touch, dig and pour.

We finished the week with a trip to Wembury beach where the children had a great time playing with the stones, the stream and the dogs!

One Down

So sad to say goodbye to one of our little ones today - he's been such a massive part of the setting for the last 3 years and we will all miss him but wish him all the best in his move!

Mothers Day 2016

Wishing all of our mummies a very happy mothers day. The children have been very busy making some lovely colourful creations for their mummies (although I know several children very proudly told their mummies in advance what they had made!).

The children really enjoyed making the hand and finger print bags and we were very pleased with the colourful results. They had great fun painting their own hands, exclaiming how tickle the paint brush was!

The cards are always a favourite as the children love to see the 'magic white pen' appear under the watercolour paints. We have a stash of white crayons for this purpose as the results always look so colourful! We also had a proud moment when one of our 3 year olds did all the writing in the card himself.
